Who doesn’t want to have an attractive smile, with great breath and pearly white teeth? There are thousands of products designed to help combat tooth decay, fight gingivitis, and keep our teeth as white as possible.

Although many of these products are beneficial in fighting the good fight against tooth decay, not all of them are natural and/or organic and certainly not all of them are cruelty-free. Only products that specifically list they’re environmentally friendly and cruelty-free truly are.

At-Home Dental Care

According to the Mayo Clinic, you should be brushing your teeth twice daily. It’s up to you what type of toothpaste you’re using, so you could choose an all-natural option like, Tom’s of Maine. Tom’s makes a variety of toothpastes, depending on your various needs. Their Botanically Bright Whitening Toothpaste will help you remove stains, while their Wicked Cool!™ toothpaste is aimed toward the younger generation. Plus, Tom’s is entirely cruelty-free, never testing on animals.

Tom’s of Maine isn’t the only company focused on bringing you all-natural, organic dental care. Lots of companies understand the need for oral health, minus all the animal byproducts and non-recyclable packaging. Here are some of your other options for organic, at-home dental care:

  • Nature Purity
  • Weleda
  • Kiss My Face
  • Miessence by One Group

Another option is to simply make your own non-fluoride toothpaste. Using some simple ingredients, you can keep your teeth healthy and clean. You don’t have to mix anything when you brush with coconut oil. Because coconut oil is a natural antibacterial and anti-fungal, brushing with it twice daily will combat gingivitis and keep your mouth clean. It can even be rubbed directly onto the gums or tongue, when gingivitis is causing you pain.

This recipe for baking soda based toothpaste only requires around 5 minutes of your time. It doesn’t include any of the harmful ingredients commercial toothpaste includes. Plus, it’s really cheap to make. You simply mix all of the ingredients in a small container and the result is inexpensive, entirely organic toothpaste.

Here’s what you need:

2/3 cup baking soda

1 – 2 tsp flavoring (peppermint, spearmint, orange, etc. These are typically sold as essential oils or extracts)

Water

Optional: 1 tsp fine sea salt

At the Dentist’s Office

Regular trips to the dentist’s office are necessary, especially for your kids, but how can you be certain their products are natural and cruelty-free? Certainly much of what your dentist is using likely goes against your personal beliefs, unless the dentist promotes themselves as eco-friendly. The best way to determine if what they’re using to clean your mouth falls in line with your values, is to ask. It’s that simple.

If you’re looking for a Las Vegas pediatric dentist and you find one you like, don’t be afraid to give them a call and ask about the materials, products, and brands they use. Ask them if they have any cruelty-free, organic options for folks who disagree with the superficial world of commercial dental products. It’s likely this dentist will be happy to comply with your needs, understanding that you’re attempting to raise your kids in a cruelty-free world.

Dental Extras

Toothpaste isn’t the only thing you’ll need to take care of your teeth. You also need to floss, mouthwash, and more. Luckily, many of the companies listed above also offer cruelty-free and organic options for flossing and mouth washing. There are even options for dental hardware, like toothbrushes and scrapers. For a full list of what’s available, you’ll need to check out their websites.
